gir,

I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of

your letter of the 21st April, and to state that this Government concurs generally in your proposals regarding the geological survey of Hongkong.

2.

With regard to the question of remuneration,

I enclose a copy of a letter addressed by Mr. Evans to the Colonial Office in which it is suggested that salary should

be at the rate of £800 per annum during absence from British Columbia; whereas you propose an honorarium of 2800 in respect of esch season and living expenses in addition. The following terms will perhaps meet the case:

(a) First Class return steamer passage.

(b) Salary during voyage at the rate of £60 per calendar

month.

(e) Salary during sensor in the field at the rate of £1 20 ·

per calendar month, it being understood that the season comprises some six to eight months,

(d) Salary to include all living expenses.

(e) Salary to be pevable monthly in local currency at the

rate of exchange of the day.

3.

A map of the Colony, scale 2" = 1 mile, is being forwarded to you under separate cover.

4.

September, 1923, would be a very suitable

time for the commencement of the work.

A. W. Brock, Esq, H.A.. LL.B..

I am, &c.,

(Sd.) M. F) etcher,

The University of British Columbia, VANCOUVER, B.C.

Colonial Secretary,
